Joe & Carol Neil Keeping Their Traditions Alive!
Shortly after getting married in 1951, Joe and Carol Neil took a memorable cruise on The Grace Bailey. | | Lunch on deck. (Image courtesy of Sarah Allen) |

Having sailed as a kid, Joe says that cruise further inspired them to embark on a lifetime of sailing, owning their own boat and cruising all over the eastern coastline, chasing the wonderful sailing opportunities of the entire Atlantic region -- especially the Maine coast. | | Joe & Carol Neil 2011 (Image courtesy of Sarah Allen) |
Sixty years later(!), at age 86 they finally decided to sell their boat, but still had the sailing bug, so they thought it would be fun to re-create the Grace Bailey experience, this time with their daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. | | Joe and grandson Clay checking the chart. The 60th anniversary cruise was much the same as the original, with miles of beautiful unspoiled Maine coast and islands to explore, wonderful food and good company. | | Joe, daughter Sarah and grandson Clay (Image courtesy of Sarah Allen) |
The weather was perfect and the whole family had a great time. Thanks to Capt. Ray, his family, and the rest of the crew, new memories have been made. Oh, and p.s. The grandchildren are taking sailing lessons this summer. -Sarah Neil Allen
